Use retained revenue after refunds. Margin should already deduct product and fulfillment costs. Enter only additional variable costs below, so you do not count the same expense twice. Fixed costs should cover the same monthly period as orders.

Formulas and limits

Retained orders = orders × (1 − refund rate). Retained revenue = retained orders × order value. Contribution = revenue × (margin − commission − tracking fee) − retained orders × additional variable cost − fixed costs. Break-even = fixed costs ÷ contribution per retained order, rounded up.

This assumes refunded orders have no commission or tracking fee and that margin captures their cost correctly. Add unrecovered refund costs to your expenses if necessary. A fee charged on commissions, clicks or leads must be converted to the equivalent revenue rate or modeled separately. This is program contribution, not net company profit or proof that sales were incremental.

Program launch readiness checklist

Check a task only when you have evidence and an owner. A completed checklist does not replace your tracking test or a review of program terms.

Partner recruitment and activation planner

Use rates from your own outreach or enter a hypothetical scenario. Replies are a share of contacts; approvals are a share of replies; activated partners are a share of approvals. Activation should mean a first useful action, such as a published placement or tracked qualified referral.

Illustrative expected counts: 20.0 replies, 10.0 approvals and 5.0 activated partners. Fractional counts represent scenario expectations, not actual people or a revenue forecast.

Build the list around audience fit, assign a follow-up date, send a usable brief and review why approved partners have not published. Read the affiliate recruiting guide and the disclosed recruiting and management paths when you need help carrying out the plan.
